Benzos while pregnant

I've been taking benzodiazepines while pregnant. I'll be getting induced on Tuesday and was just told that our baby could be in the NICU for weeks. I fee.

Thank you so much.

Even if he would have had withdrawl although it would have broke my heart(I honestly know what u r feeling) I knew I was at 1 of the best hospitals n the city & they were equipped to take care of him. He was born perfectly fine with no withdrawl. In my case bcs I let them talk me into going on methadone which I did not want at the last minute they popes on me that by state law he had to stay 72 hrs by state law (probably bcs most methadone patients r street drug users). Even if he has to be treated by the NICU most likely he will still get to stay n the room w/u.

Was it a family doc or psychiatrist who told you benzos were ok?

I will say a prayer for you and your baby.

Other bipolar medications such as carbamazepine (Tegretol) and sodium valproate (Depakote) also carry some risks of fetal malformation, but physicians may still consider using these medications on the minimum effective dose, alongside regular monitoring.

A MEDLINE search of the literature between 1966 and 2000 was conducted with the terms "benzodiazepines," "diazepam," "chlordiazepoxide," "clonazepam," "lorazepam," "alprazolam," "pregnancy," "lactation," "fetus," and "neonates.".

Minimizing the risks of benzodiazepine therapy among pregnant or lactating women involves using drugs that have established safety records at the lowest dosage for the shortest possible duration, avoiding use during the first trimester, and avoiding multidrug regimens.
